Music WAC 2/27/18

Why Music Should Be Used While Doing Work
Music has been around since 500 AD. Music can be found everywhere ... including classrooms. When you walk into a class of kids you will probably notice some students have earbuds in or headphones on. The on going debate of whether music should be used while studying is a strong debate. Some students claim that listening to music helps the think better while eliminating annoying background noise such as as a baby crying , a bird constantly chirping, kids screaming and laughing loudly etc. Some students counter argue that music affects their learning in a negative way, they say its too distracting. I'm about to prove why listening to music while studying DOES actually help you learn.

Endurance is something that many kids have trouble doing while studying . Endurance while doing homework is basically the ability to do ongoing homework with no distractions. Many kids have trouble staying on task. "Background music may improve focus on a task by providing motivation and improving mood. During long study sessions, music can aid endurance." This quote was said by Nicky Davis from the Article "Is it Good to Listen to Music While Studying?"

Music helps block out the multiple distractions in a study area such as a library or park. Listening to music isolates you to your own study space and it helps people feel calm and peaceful. It was scientifically proven that listening to music enhances studies when you're at a place with loud background noise.“ Subjects tested in environments with background music were found to get better results than those tested against background noise. Therefore, taking along an iPod and a set of headphones may come in handy if you’re looking to avoid being distracted by any ambient sounds.”

The arguments from the other side are that people shouldn't listen to music while doing work or studying. The say this because scientific studies show that people don’t remember certain tasks and bits of knowledge they need the most for learning. “When you hear something you like, it heightens your arousal and mood, which improves performance”

In conclusion music does help people learn because it puts them into a calm quiet environment of their own. Music puts people in a calm state of mind which helps them stay focused on their work, music prevents distraction and the annoyance of background noises. But it really depends on the type of student the kids are because some would just prefer a quiet room with no music while some kids would prefer to be in a room with headphones on."Ultimately, the effects of music on study habits are dependent on the student and their style of learning. If easily distracted, students should most likely avoid music so they can keep their focus on their work. Conversely, students who function better as multi-taskers may find that music helps them to better concentrate."

Roller Coaster Project - 2/18/18

Summary:
Acceleration is a change in velocity over a certain time period. Vectors are quantities that are completely described by both direction and a magnitude and a Scalar is only fully described by a Magnitude such as a numerical value. Speed is the amount of distance an object covers in an specific amount of time. Speed can be found when you divide the distance traveled by time. A force is a sudden push or pull that results from another object. Potential energy is stored energy of placement possessed by a certain object.

Backward-Looking
I didnt know anything about physics until we learned about it in class, the only thing i knew was that we were going to build a rollercoaster because last years 8th grade class did the same project when they were in 8th grade. The closest thing i got to learning physics was learning about gravity from a documentary on TV.
Inward-Looking:
I feel very happy with my work because we put a lot of effort into it and our creativity juices were flowing. I love our loop because it works perfectly fine and its mid drop which makes it cooler. I didn't like how ugly the cardboard looked while supporting out dowel. It just looked really out of place. I enjoyed building it because at time the hot glue would burn through our tubing and we would have to redo the process over and over again.
Outward-Looking
I would give my project a A+ mainly because my groups rollercoaster was neatly done and we followed everything the rubric said to do. Our rollercoaster was put together by using hot glue which didn't show out like the tape did . So our roller coaster was perfectly smooth, both inside and out. And our labels were taped onto the side of our roller coaster to make the structure neater and less messy. And our
Forward-Looking
One goal I want to set for myself is to probably organize out what day I would do this and that. I say this because I feel like my group was kind of rushed. My group was kind of rushed because we would be springing from one place to the other place doing work. But the thing is we would leave our remaining work like 80% done while starting another part of the project. So for future projects I would want to make a calendar to stay on track and to keep myself on task and focus.

S&EP Analyzing & Interpreting Data: In class we did an experiment which involved us using Hot Wheels and some Tracks, this experiment helped us see the different types of changes in velocity and acceleration, we would compare the data to how it would fit into newtons laws. We would time the car as it went down the ramp that my team created, then we would calculate the velocity , speed , and acceleration, and we saw how it related to newtons laws of motion.

Newtons Laws - 2/4/18 - super bowl sunday

How many Newton's Laws are there and what are they? - Quora
First Law - A object that is at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the exact same speed and in the exact same direction unless acted upon by a unbalanced force.Second Law - Acceleration is created when a force acts on a certain mass. The greater the mass is , the greater the amount of force will be.Third Law - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
